The Bush Brigade
The influence of George W. Bush on the American psyche is unequaled. He has been able to convince the American people to attack a country that has taken no action against America. His ability to influence has now obviously become international, as the 120,000 trained Iraqi defenders of freedom have studied George W. Bush's military history. The approach of the Iraqi Bush Brigade is to sign up with the military or police and then do everything possible to avoid combat. If Bush is successful in influencing the entire world there will be no armies for combat and peace will reign. Thank you President Bush; I didn't understand your plan when you first avoided combat in Viet Nam.
In the spring of 1968, George W. Bush was about to graduate from college, and lose his draft deferment. Like many young men of privilege from his generation, Bush was able to evade serving his country in Vietnam by enlisting in the Air National Guard
There has been much written about George W. Bush's failure to meet his military obligations. It seems very obvious that he in fact deserted the military but because of his influential family ties he was not sent to prison like other deserters during the Viet Nam War. One of the things I find really strange is that the Bush administration was able to portray him as some military hero while portraying his opponent, who actually served in Viet Nam, as some low life scumbag. It does seem that the Bush administration's ability to instill fear in the American public was one of the key factors in swinging the election in his favor, even though more people voted against Bush than against any elected president in history. Unfortunately this man who failed to stand up for America when he was called now feels that the 60 million people who voted against him deserve no representation. But lets stay on the subject of the Bush military desertion.
The Bush military records show that his last flight time was logged in April of 1972. There was a period of time between April of that year and October of 1972 that has never been accounted for and is the period that clearly delineates Bush's desertion. During this time Bush skipped a medical exam he was required to take and was order to take by his commanding officer. Because of this dereliction of duty Bush lost his pilot's status in August of 1972. Bush claimed that the reason he refused to follow orders was that the plane he was training in, the F-102A was almost obsolete, even though the other members of Bush's Texas unit who did show up for duty flew these planes until 1974.
Bush's 2000 campaign suggested the future president skipped his medical exam in part because the F-102A was nearly obsolete. Records show Bush's Texas unit flew the F-102A until 1974 and used the jets as part of an air defense drill during 1972. Bush deserted during a period when his unit was placed on a "24-hour active alert mission to protect the US against surprise attack" in the southern United State starting on Oct. 6, 1972. Bush's records indicate that he was fully qualified to fly the F-102A and the T-38 that makes his claim that the plane he could fly becoming obsolete as a lame excuse for his desertion.
There were a number of reports that the military required to be kept on airmen that where not kept or had been "misplaced" by Bush's commanders. One very important document that was not available was the required investigation when any pilot skips their medical exam.
Judging from George W. Bush's history the reason he deserted his post seems to be because of nerves, fear a drinking and cocaine problem, which affected his ability to fly his F-102A plane.
It is interesting to note that now that he is commander-in-chief bush is sending American men and women, serving in the National Guard, forcing them into extended tours rather than allowing them to return home. And those how do return home find that Bush has narrowed the definition of wounded in action and decreased veterans benefits while they served in Iraq. There is one thing that is abundantly clear, military deserters never make good military leaders, they seem to feel compelled to let the blood of others make up for their own cowardice.
