shopping areas and chic eateries. This costal neighborhood was rebuild after it was totally destroyed by the big earthquake and fire of 1906 and has grown into being a energetic community with magnificent vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz Island. The Marina Green offers residents, walking trail that extends for a mile along the shoreline, a real recreational pleasure for walkers, joggers, roller bladders, runners, sunbathers and strollers.
The Marina was originally a swampy area interspersed with sand dunes, after the earthquake the area of the district was expanded by turning it into a dumping ground for many tons of debris from the earthquake destruction. Following a more serious stabilization of this foundation of rubble the urbanization of the area created apartment buildings, plush homes and many stylish shops and restaurants. The Golden Gate Yacht Club and small boat harbor on its shores highlight the exclusive nature of this district.
